Congratulations to the winner of the 2009 NYAC, Moran Katz
The National Young Artist Competition, first held in 1962 with 25 contestants, has grown in size and stature through the years. Originally it was an annual event, but since 1993 it has been held every other year, alternating between Odessa and Midland and staffed by the Symphony Guild of the host city. Currently it is limited to 80 contestants, who must be less than 28 years old and must be certified by their teachers as competent to perform as soloists with a professional symphony. There are three categories: piano, winds and percussion, and strings.
The two-day Competition is judged by a panel of musicians of national repute.
